Project Overview

The goal of this project was to design a digital interface for a smart shower system, along with a cohesive brand identity for HomeTech - a company focused on enhancing everyday experiences through smart home innovation. Traditional showers often lack personalization and mood-enhancing features, so this product was designed to fill that gap by integrating technology that caters to users' emotional and sensory needs. My process included UX research, brand development, and the creation of low, mid, and high-fidelity wireframes, culminating in a functional prototype that aligns with HomeTech’s vision of intelligent, user-centered design.

My Design Process
01. Discover

The primary goal of the Discovery phase was to gather and organize data to gain a clear understanding of the users—their behaviors, goals, needs, and pain points.

To collect this information, I conducted 10 interviews with individuals who met specific criteria: age 18 and up, homeowners or renters, eco-conscious, responsible for paying household bills, interested in smart home appliances, open to adopting smart home technology, and ranging from low to high in tech savviness. Interview questions were intentionally open-ended, encouraging participants to speak freely and in detail without leading their responses.

Once the data was collected, I synthesized the findings using three key methods: Affinity Mapping to identify themes and patterns in user feedback, User Personas to represent core user types and their motivations, and a SWOT (Competitive) Analysis to evaluate competitor offerings and uncover opportunities.

These tools helped me form a holistic picture of user needs and the product landscape.

02. Define

In the Define phase, I distilled the research into a clear and actionable Problem Statement. This step ensured I stayed aligned with real user needs and provided a solid foundation for the design work ahead. By identifying the core challenge to solve, I was able to move into the design phase with clear direction and purpose.

Problem Statement:
Traditional showers lack personalized control and advanced features leading to inefficiency and user frustration, creating a need for a smart shower system that leverages advanced technology to optimize water temperature, pressure, and usage while adapting to individual preferences.
03. Design + Test

During this combined phase, I translated insights into tangible solutions. I designed and tested wireframes at varying levels of fidelity, built a brand guide, and created interactive prototypes for tablets.

I began with Low-Fidelity Wireframes, which allowed me to rapidly explore layout ideas and content structure without getting caught up in visual details. These “skeletons” were instrumental in brainstorming and quick iteration.

From there, I developed Mid-Fidelity Wireframes, which refined layout decisions and introduced content hierarchy. At this stage, I focused on testing functional elements like button placement, image sizing, and text positioning - getting the structure right before moving to the final visuals.

To ensure consistency, I created a Brand Guide that defined the project’s core identity. This included:

  • Color palette

  • Typography system

  • Logo Design

The guide helped maintain alignment across all design elements and streamlined collaboration throughout the project.

Using this foundation, I then built High-Fidelity Wireframes and interactive Prototypes, bringing the design to life. Afterward, I conducted usability tests with users, gathered feedback, and iteratively refined the design to ensure it met user needs and expectations.
